7 Essential Tips to Be a Better Communicator

The word is an extremely important vehicle for others to  know your  potential as a person and as a professional.

Good communication is essential for you to be interpreted and valued in your workplace and by your customers.

In my Health and Life Coaching Consultations I am often called upon to develop people's Communication Skills and it is amazing how many intelligent people when it comes to expressing themselves, go into panic and anxiety attacks and cannot show even half of what You know.

The Art of Communication can be learned and it doesn't have to be a seven-year-old  heads. One of the areas of my work is to provide participants with tranquility to speak in public, postural techniques for personal empowerment, assertive language and focus on content, for people who have difficulty expressing themselves and controlling anxiety when exposing themselves in the most situations, from submitting work to applying for new positions in your profession.

In this article I want to share 7 tips for your communication to start flowing better today.

1. In any important conversation, be considerate and friendly  before getting into the main subject. A good morning and a smile build strong bridges of trust and understanding. Before getting to the heart of your conversation, make sure the person feels welcome and comfortable in your presence, avoiding misunderstandings and prejudice.

2. Beware of distractions, our body language speaks volumes about our interest in the conversation.

For some people it is extremely offensive when they have to talk to others who are constantly looking at the phone, when they talk with earphones in their ears, always have their eyes dispersed or their arms crossed when accepting a contrary opinion. Try to lift your head and look more into the person's eyes to show respect for them and understand their needs.

3. It is important to define in advance in your mind map what results you want to get from the conversation, so that it can be developed in a clear and objective way. Stay focused, be brief and concise.

Pay attention to the person's reaction and what are their expectations and even if you don't agree with them, try to maintain balance and politeness, so that at no time you lose your mind.

4. Learn to listen without interrupting. Even if you think the person is not right, allow them to express themselves, as we can learn a lot about ourselves and how to communicate better when we listen to each other. Sometimes it's more important to avoid a confrontation than to always have the last word.

5. Adapt your message to the target audience. Assess the type of group or structure of the person you are addressing, to be specific and not use unnecessary words and arguments. Don't belittle anyone's intelligence, but understand that to be better understood you have to communicate in the language the person understands.

6. Have the Ford Method up your sleeve whenever you need an icebreaker conversation. FORD stands for Family, Occupation, Leisure  and Dreams.
Think of a few questions for each category, file them away in your memory, and you can start a long-lasting conversation with anyone you don't know that well. Sometimes it's more important to be interested than to want to look interesting.

7. Whenever you think it is pertinent, ask for feedback, that is, ask the person if they really understand what you mean, if they agree or disagree. It's a way that we can always improve our ability to express ourselves and ensure that communication between you is always clear and transparent.
